Joan M. MacDougall ( Macleod) age 81, a longtime resident of Manchester By the Sea, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA on April 16, 2012, after a brave struggle with cancer.
Born in Prince Edward Island Canada, to the late Whitfield and Florence MacLeod she was the eldest of two children leaving behind her younger brother John MacLeod. Mrs. MacDougall grew up in Prince Edward Island. Mrs. MacDougall married Gordon Q. MacDougall on Prince Edward Island in 1948. They moved to the Boston area shortly thereafter. The couple relocated to Manchester in 1954, where they raised their five children.
Mrs. MacDougall was an avid reader and active in social issues. She enjoyed spending time with her great friend Barbara Machain, who was with her until she passed. She devoted her life to her family. She loved her ten grandchildren: Carrie, Amy and her husband Arthur Gordon, Ricky, Corey, Jessica, Anthony, Alicia, Ashley, Philip Jr. and Joey and two great grandchildren: Courtney and Nicholas more than anything in the world.
Joan MacDougall leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law David and Cindy MacDougall of Manchester, her daughter Nancy MacDougall of New York, her son Philip MacDougall and daughter-in-law Sheri MacDougall of California, her daughter Janet Cirone and son in law Anthony of Manchester. Joan is now in Heaven with her daughter Linda Hayes who resided in Manchester.
