Denver, Co — Irene Boulger Featherstone, 97, passed away on June 13, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Denver, Colo. Irene was an avid health advocate, horticulturist, artist, and reader. She was witty and kind and always ready to share her wisdom. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Born in Salem, Mass., on August 23rd, 1915, Irene attended St. Chrettiene Academy for both elementary and secondary education, graduating in 1933, and attended college in Boston.
Irene moved to Los Angeles in 1938, to pursue her career, rising to executive assistant to the head of the legal Department for Transamerica Financial Corp., from 1954 to 1980. She continued to live in her beautiful hillside home caring for her garden and citrus trees in Los Angeles until she was 93 years old. In 2008, she moved to Denver, Colo., to be near family, but still continued her daily walks.
Irene was preceded in death by her father and mother, James and Margaret Boulger of Salem, Mass.; and her brother and sister-in-law, James and Elizabeth Boulger of Salem. She is survived by her niece, Pamela O’Neal and her husband, Michael O’Neal; her nephew, Gordon Boulger and his wife, Lauri Boulger; and her grandnieces and nephews, Brooke and Lindsay O’Neal, and Lauren and Brandon Boulger.
ARRANGEMENTS: Irene’s Funeral will be held from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., corner of North Street, Salem, on Thursday, June 20, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorn Blvd., Salem at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday June 19, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. Internment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, North St., Salem.
