Alexandria, VA — On April 1, 2012, Geraldine Putnam Vaux Olsen passed away in Alexandria, VA, after a difficult fight against lung cancer. She was 72, the only daughter of Robert G. Vaux and Carolyn D. Vaux of Danvers, MA. She is survived by her two sons, Kirk Olsen of Freeport, ME, and Mark Olsen of Chebeague, ME, and her brother Richard Vaux of Hampton Falls, NH.
Gerry attended Danvers and Hamilton schools and graduated in 1957. She graduated from Framingham State College in 1961 with a B.S. in Education. She later received her Master’s in Education from the University of Maine, Portland.
She had an interesting career over many years. She was assistant to the Vice President of Maine National Bank; District Manager for the Carlisle Collection, Ltd.; Chief of Staff for the Maine House of Representatives Minority Office; Executive Assistant to the CEO at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland, ME; Finance Director for the Monks for US Senate campaign; Executive Assistant to the Senior VP at the Chesapeake Center in Virginia; Conference Planner for government contracts at Courtesy Associates in Washington DC; the Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Board, Special Olympics with Sergeant & Eunice Kennedy Shriver in Washington DC; and, lastly, Project Manager for the restoration of the Shriver residence in Washington DC.
Gerry loved her flowers, feeding her birds and was an avid Red Sox fan. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
