Katherine T. "Kay" (Friend) MacDonald


Lynn — Mrs. Katherine T. “Kay” (Friend) MacDonald, 90, of Lynn died April 17, 2013, at the Kaplan Hospice with her beloved family at her side. She was the wife of the late Forrest A. MacDonald with whom she shared 47 years of marriage.

Katherine was born in Lynn, daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Markham) Friend. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, class of 1940. Katherine also attended Lynn Hospital School of Nursing. Katherine was employed at the General Electric Company during World War II. She then went on to start a family with her husband, Forrest.

She was a life-long resident of Lynn. She loved the home her husband built where family and friends would often gather for special occasions.

Katherine was a great treasure to all who knew her. She was a loving example of caring, kindness and compassion. She was oldest of six sisters and her door was always open for countless occasions. She truly loved the times shared with family and friends. Katherine was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Lynnfield, Mass.

She is survived by her children, Patricia M. Abrams and her husband, Ron, of Marblehead, Barbara A. MacDonald of Marblehead, Janet M. MacDonald of Salem, and Forrest C. MacDonald of Lynn. She is survived by her sisters, Mary M. Neill of San Diego, Calif., Dorothy St. Pierre and her husband, Ronald, of Beverly, Barbara L. Desmarais of Nahant, and Ann Sweeney of Beverly. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Katherine was predeceased by her sister, Helen M. and her husband, Thomas J. Zampell, of Beverly. She also was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Joseph R. Sweeney of Beverly.

ARRANGEMENTS: Kay’s Funeral will be held from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, on Monday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
