Raymond J. Palleschi, 61

Swampscott, MA — Raymond J. Palleschi, 61, of Swampscott, Mass., died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at his home.

The son of the late Armand and Marion (Laidlaw) Palleschi, Ray was born in Lynn, Mass., on December 5, 1951. He was a graduate of Swampscott High School. He received his B.S. Degree in Meteorology from Boston University. He was employed as a tower operator and later as a dispatcher for the Boston and Maine Railroad, Amtrak, and MBCR, which operates MBTA Commuter Rail Services, on the Northside. He recently retired after 35 years of service. He was a member of the American Train Dispatchers Association.

An avid and well-known model railroader, Ray was the longest operating member of the B&M Operators operating group. He modeled and designed many scale buildings. He also enjoyed watching and photographing real railroad operations and scenes, traveling to many areas of the United States, especially Colorado narrow gauge steam operations.

Ray was an avid roller-skater, participating in local and national competitions, where he earned many First and Second Place awards. He was an avid golfer. With his late brother, he owned and operated A&R Engravers in Salem. He was skilled in designing many types of graphics. He enjoyed following the weather, and reported local weather to the U.S. Weather Bureau.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Swampscott, where he was an usher and collector. During the recent restoration of the Church's organ, he assisted in the project and photographed its restoration. He also took photographs during church events.

Raymond was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Armand "Jack" Palleschi. He is survived by his cousins, Jeanne M. Reardon of Winchester, Barbara (Palleschi) Gayton of Middleton, Arthur Palleschi of Swampscott, and James Palleschi of Hampton, N.H., and many second cousins.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass to be held Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 174 Humphrey St., Swampscott. Burial will be in Swampscott Cemetery. A Visitation will precede the Mass at 10:30 a.m. at the Church.
