• Alice I. Trembley, 89

  Hampton, VA — Mrs. Alice I. Trembley passed away on Thursday, June 13, in Virginia, she was 89. Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Rosanna LaCombe. The wife of the late Norman J. Trembley, together they traveled during his military service and settled in Washington state to raise their family. Alice enjoyed gardening, singing and cooking; but mostly enjoyed time spent with family. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Anderson of Puyallup, Wash., Susan Guinan of Tacoma, Wash., and Michele Potter of Yorktown, Va.; her sister, Irene Hoar; her grandchildren, Christopher, Seth and Stephanie Anderson, Jeremy and Jason Smith, Katrina Potter; her great-grandchildren, Danielle and Anikah Guinan, Addison and LeeAnn Smith, Jack and Maxamo Anderson.

• Anthony Koutzoukis, 88
  

  Peabody, MA — Anthony Koutzoukis, 88, a retired Peabody Deputy Fire Chief and a decorated WWII Army Veteran, passed away on Tuesday at the NSMC Salem Hospital ICU with his family at his side. He was the devoted husband of 65 years to Esther (Booras) Koutzoukis. He was born of immigrant parents on January 17, 1925, to Peter and Mary (Lemneos) Koutzoukis and was a lifelong Peabody resident and very proud of his city. He graduated from Peabody High School and attended a year of college at Northeastern University before entering the U.S. Army as a combat soldier on April 21, 1943. He fought from Normandy Beach to Omaha Beach to Czechoslovakia and was discharged on December 21, 1945. Tony was a recipient of the Bronze Medal and later named a “Chevalier” of the Legion of Honor in 2006, an honor bestowed upon him by the President of the French Republic for "unforgettable gratitude and appreciation." Upon his discharge, he first worked in the Tanneries in Peabody before joining the Peabody Fire Department. He served there for 32 years, retiring as a Deputy Fire Chief receiving many commendations. Tony was an active member of St. Vasilios Church working on many projects, to name a few, restoring the Greek School, and serving as a member of the Board. He also received an award for his tireless efforts for the deceased veterans of the parish. Every Veterans Day, for more than a decade, he was instrumental in honoring those veterans with a ceremony and a breakfast. Just recently, he was involved in a project trying to get handicap ramps established in the church and Education Center. He had been an active member and past commander of the VFW Post 1011 of Peabody and a past commander of the Peabody Veterans Council. Tony was also a member of the Jordan Lodge A.F. & A.M, worked for many years with the Peabody Red Cross and was very active in creating the East End Park in honor of the Veterans of Peabody. He periodically did talks at the schools recounting his experiences during WWII. He received a Certificate of Appreciation from the school children of Peabody. He received the Pride of Peabody Award and the Eleanor Frothingham Smith Award along with many other awards over the years. He was a very generous man not only giving donations, but giving of his time. Tony left a legacy of helping many people in so many ways. Even though he was disabled, he worked tirelessly for them from his kitchen table and his speaker phone, which his family fondly referred to as "Command Central." Besides his wife, Esther, he is survived by a son, Peter A. Koutzoukis of Rowley; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and William Caico of Salem and Emily and Fernando Pereira of Plymouth, Mass.; a sister and brother-in-law, Orania and Edward Barry of Somerset, Mass.; 7 grandchildren, Nicole (Caico) Allain and her husband, Jason, of Danvers, Christina (Caico) Dattoli and her husband, Joseph, of Woburn, Anthony Koutzoukis of Yokohama, Japan, Alexander Koutzoukis of Somerville and Tara, Eric and Megan Pereira, all of Plymouth; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and many close friends. He was fondly referred to as "Puppy" by his grandchildren and spending time with them and his family was the true joy in his life. He was the brother of the late Ernest P. Koutzoukis.

• Barbara Ann (Bonfiglio) Cuzzi, 74
  

  Peabody, MA — Barbara Ann (Bonfiglio) Cuzzi, 74, of West Peabody, died Tuesday evening at the NSMC Salem Hospital after a short illness. She was the loving wife of retired Peabody Police Officer Carman L. Cuzzi. She was born in Boston on June 6, 1939, the daughter of the late Carl and Geraldine (Ferranti) Bonfiglio and was raised in East Boston and had resided in West Peabody for the past 40 years. Barbara was a very caring person who loved to cook her special recipes for her family. She loved being with her children and grandchildren and nurturing them into adulthood. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Carman L. Cuzzi; a son and daughter-in-law, Carman J. and Rachel Cuzzi of Peabody; three daughters, Lisa Visone of Boca Raton, Fla., Kimberly Serra-Smyrrnios and her husband, Michael Smyrnios, and Robin and Steven McCarthy, all of Peabody; two brothers, Santo Bonfiglio of Revere and Francis Bonfiglio of Saugus; a sister, Deborah D’Agostino of Peabody; her cherished grandchildren, Paris and Paige Visone, Carl and Dior Serra, Steven, Ryan and Madison McCarthy, Cole, Cam and Payton Cuzzi and Kenneth D’Agostino; and many nieces and nephews.

She was a loving mother and wife and enjoyed playing computer games.

She was predeceased by her twin brother, Palmer Southworth Willard, her youngest brother William Leslie Willard and her older brother, John Bleveny Willard.

• H. Gerard Donohie, 84

  Danvers, MA — H. Gerard “Gerry” Donohie, 84, of Collegeville, Penn., and formerly of Danvers and Peabody, Mass., died on Friday, June 14, after a short illness. He was the loving husband of Patricia (Kelley) Donohie. He was born in Philadelphia, Penn., on May 2, 1929, and was raised there, graduating from Villanova College. He had been in sales with the Jet Engine division of General Electric in Lynn for over 30 years, prior to his retirement. He had first resided in Peabody, where he had been a member and past president of the Peabody Jaycees, and later moved to Danvers. He enjoyed boating, and had been a member of the Squares-in-Focus Square Dance group of Peabody. He and his wife, Pat were active members of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers before moving back to Collegeville. Jerry enjoyed history and traveling, and he and his wife, Pat had traveled to over 100 countries. He is survived by his wife, Pat of Collegeville; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul and Audrey Donohie, Mark Donohie and John Dohohie; a granddaughter, Elicia Donohie; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Eileen Donohie- Hall and the brother of the late Paul Donohie and Rev. John Donohie.

• Isadore 'Izzy' Schorr, 87

  Peabody — Isadore "Izzy" Schorr, a lifelong resident of Peabody, entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 17, at the age of 87 years. He was born on November 1, 1925, in Montreal, Canada, and moved to Peabody, Mass., with his parents and sisters during the Depression of the 1930s. He was the son of Sam and Celia Schorr. He was educated in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School in 1942. He was a veteran of World War II, and served with the U.S. Army in Europe and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge.

• Emil Szmyd, 83
  

  Peabody MA — Emil Szmyd, 83, of Peabody, died Saturday at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Theresa (Lewicki) Szmyd, who died in 2006. According to family legend, Emil’s mother, Victoria Szmyd, a native of Newmarket, N.H., gave birth to him on the steps of the U.S. Embassy in Poland on May 20, 1930. He later immigrated to the U.S. in 1950, after being raised by his grandmother while Russian and German soldiers occupied his village of Lubla, Poland, during WW II. After reuniting with his family in the U.S., Emil learned how to repair houses from his stepfather and became an electrician. He joined the IBEW Local 259 in Salem, later retiring from Local 103 in 1992. He worked all over the North Shore. He was also the vice president and an active member of the Polish Falcons Nest 188 of Salem. He enjoyed playing cards, watching birds, playing harmonica, and being with his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Edward Szmyd, Richard and his wife, Catherine Szmyd and Robert and his wife, Tara Szmyd all of Peabody; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Maggiemae, Isabella, and Rose Szmyd; his sisters, Irene, Marilyn and her husband, Ron; and his cousins, Walter, Oleshia, Joe, Tadeck, Statia, and Teresa.
