Gretchen (Court) Gauthier, 60


Salem, MA — Gretchen “Gret” Gauthier died Friday, November 22, 2013, after a long illness. Gret was the beloved wife of Roland Gauthier, Jr.

Born in Beverly December 10, 1952, Gret was daughter of the late Philip I. and Barbara M. (Dunn) Court. Gret was raised on Chebbaco Lake in Essex and attended Essex Elementary School. Following her graduation from Hamilton-Wenham High School in 1971 Gret married the love of her life and moved to Belmont, NH. There she bred Arabian horses and German Short Haired Pointers. Gret was an avid animal lover and served as the Animal Control Officer in Belmont.

In 1988 Gret decided to pursue a career in nursing, she and Roland returned to Salem, MA. Gret received her RN, BSN from Salem State College in 1992. Following graduation she worked as a charge nurse on the third shift at Hogan Regional in Danvers. Gret loved her patients and cared for each one with dignity. For years Gret and Roland shared their love and home with many adults and children on the North Shore serving as respite care providers and foster parents.

In addition to her husband, Roland, with whom she shared 41 years of marriage, Gret is survived by her beloved son, Adam and his wife, Debbie (Beaulieu), of Danvers; her foster son, Corey Levine of Dartmouth, MA; her grandsons, Rusty of NJ and Brody of Danvers (born December 13); brothers, David and his wife, Nancy, of Northfield, NH and Rob of Belmont, NH; her sister, Kathy Bourgault and her husband, Ron, of Danvers; sisters-in-law, Paulette (Gauthier) Theriault and her husband, Andy, of Amesbury, Anne Gauthier of Marblehead, Claire Gauthier and her partner, Lee White, of Salem; brothers-in-law, Marc Gauthier and his partner, Tracy Lawrence, of Salem, Daniel Gauthier and his wife, Beth, of Salem; many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews; and her dear Russian “son,” Alex Rybnikov of Surfside, FL.

Gret was predeceased by her parents; her father-in-law, Roland, Sr. and mother-in-law, Theresa Gauthier; and her niece, Julia Gauthier.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 11 Summer Street, Peabody on Saturday, January 4, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Julia Gauthier Scholarship Fund, c/o Seaport Credit Union, 336 Lafayette Street, Salem, MA 01970.
