Marblehead — Joyce L. (Demeritt) Villani, 77, died suddenly at home in Marblehead on January 10, 2014.
Born in Peabody, she grew up and spent most of her years in Salem, the city closest to her heart. She liked spending time at the Salem Willows in summer, attending family gatherings at Bertini’s for pizza, and also the Hawthorne Hotel, where she recently enjoyed the festivities at Christmastime. Joyce was interested in and liked the architecture in the historic areas of Salem, particularly the McIntyre doorways.
She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Geraldine Demeritt, and was sadly predeceased by both her younger siblings, Ralph Demeritt and Donna (Demeritt) Nelson. She attended Salem High School, and was a member of the Class of 1953.
Joyce was a loving mother and grandmother, and is survived by her daughter, Patricia Villani Boldys, her husband, Walter, of Marblehead and their two children, Annie and Alexander; and daughter, Christine Villani of Seattle, Wash.
In later years, Joyce moved to Marblehead, where she enjoyed volunteering at the Lighthouse Thrift Shop, meeting friends for dinner, and walking her dog, Holly, around downtown. Most recently, she lived in elderly housing at the Roades School, where she made many new friends.
Joyce enjoyed people and animals, had a great sense of humor and quick wit. She loved to cook (great marinara sauce!), and also loved to read, see movies, and was a good friend. Many will miss her dearly.
ARRANGEMENTS: Memorial Visitation will be held at the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm St., Marblehead, on Sunday, January 19, from 12 to 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
