He would tell everyone that one of his proudest moments was when his grandson, Drew Schimmel, pinned the father’s pin on his shirt when Drew became an Eagle Scout, Troop 35, on March 17, 2012.
He and his family are members of the Ipswich Fish and Game Club, where they watched Drew shoot trap. He took pride in his family, with four generations living together; his son Mark, daughter, Karren Schimmel, and her son, Drew, her daughter, Christina and her husband, Jason Dalton, and Don’s great-granddaughter, Gretchen, and he looked forward to every other weekend when his great-granddaughters, Sarah and Elizabeth Dalton, came for the weekend.
In addition to his home family, he leaves his son, Danald W. Standley Jr.; Mark’s children, Nichole Landers, Phyllis Rose and Asa Landers-Standley; four generations of nieces and nephews, any of whom he was very close to, including Debbie Standley Sheldon, Cheryl Tobin Carr, Sandy Tobin Foley, Billy Standley, Sue Marshall, and Bobbie Parks; and sister-in-law, Youngja Standley, and foster grandchild, AndyMay Sims. He was predeceased by his brothers, William and Linwood Standley, Everett and Charles Tobin, and sisters, Pheobe McCarthy and Margarie Tobin McGeogheghan.
