Antonia Crosby, 87

Ipswich — Antonia “Toni” Crosby, 87, formerly of Ipswich, died peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers.

Born on April 28, 1926, in Spokane, Wash., she was the daughter of the late late Edward and Hazel (Nieman) Crosby. She graduated from Holy Names Academy in 1944, and attended Saint Mary’s College, Ind., where she studied art and philosophy. She settled in Ipswich in 1954, with her then-husband, James C. McManaway Jr. She completed her Bachelor of Art and received a master's in education from Boston University in 1970. Ms. Crosby taught English at the Ipswich High School between 1966 and 1984. She lived in Ipswich for over 30 years, moving to Georgetown, and later to Brooksby Village, Peabody. She was an indefatigable reader and gardener.

She is survived by her children, Deborah White and her husband, Peter, Sarah McManaway and her husband, Nicholas Theodorou, and Michael McManaway and his wife, Cheryl; and by her three grandchildren, Hobbs White and his wife, Sonja Swanson, Evan White, and Alexus McManaway. She is also survived by her sister, Katherine Ferguson; and brothers, Howard and Edward Crosby.

Her daughter, Catherine “Tassy” McManaway, predeceased her in 1968.

ARRANGEMENTS: A service and reception will be held 3 p.m., on Saturday, March 15, at Ascension Memorial Church, 31 County Street, Ipswich. All are cordially welcomed. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
