Peabody — Barbara J. Martin, 84, of Peabody, died peacefully at her home on Friday, March 21. Barbara was born on August 6, 1929, in Lynn, and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Gladys Sexton.
She graduated from St Mary's Girls High School, Class of 1947, and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, Class of 1949.
She was married to the late Edward G. "Honey" Martin until his death in 1979. She is survived by her five children, Edward "Teddy" Martin and his wife, Rose, of Lynn, Karen Hinton of Peabody, with whom she resided, Maryellen Hamel and her husband, Andy, of Peabody, TJ Martin of Peabody, and Nancy Griffin and her husband, Jimmy, of Peabody. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, Ned Martin and his wife, Liz, and Kelley Martin, Robbie Hinton and his wife, Melanie, Jonathan Hinton and Matthew Hinton and his fiancée, Shannon Miller, Andrew and Jack Hamel, Ashley and Hannah Martin, and Mackenzie and Kyle Griffin; and one great-grandchild, Vivienne Martin. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Bob Hinton. Her grandchildren were the delight of her life! She also found much joy in the company of her "granddogs" Ruby, Rocky and Dixie.
She also leaves her in-laws, Maureen Conrad, Bill and Jane Martin, and Joe Martin. She leaves many lifelong friends fondly referred to as "The Club."
She retired at the age of 75, from the Peabody Police Department, after 20-plus years of service. She was a faithful, active member of St. Ann and St. John the Baptist Parish, where she volunteered in the Parish center until her death. Her Catholic faith, daily rosary, weekly Mass attendance, "prayer list," and kindness to others, were the core of her beliefs.
Barbara will be sorely missed by her family and friends that she loved and cared for throughout her life.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours are on Tuesday, March 25, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist, 17 Church Street, Peabody. on Wednesday, March 26. at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St Mary's Cemetery, Lynnfield Street, Lynn.
