SALEM — Mrs. Doris H. (Gelineau) Tierney, 81, of Church Street, Salem, beloved wife of the late Albert R. Tierney, died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 at Salem Hospital.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Helen (Kennedy) Gelineau. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1943.
Mrs. Tierney was employed for over 42 years by the New England Telephone Company until her retirement. Doris was known for her vibrant personality, her community activities and her love for family.
She was a member and past president of the Women's Friends Society of Salem and the New England Telephone Pioneers of America and was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Salem.
She was very supportive of all her family and friends and will be deeply missed, especially by her weekly women's club and lifelong friends, Charlotte Gallow, Barbara Byrne, Nancy Downey, Dorothy Crawford, Marie Moran and Janice Monahan.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Catherine Doughty and her husband David G. Jr. of Ft. Collins, Colo. and Gloucester; her son, United States Congressman John F. Tierney and his wife Patrice M. of Salem; her daughter-in-law, Martha M. Tierney of Salem, wife of the late Michael A. Tierney; her granddaughter, Kristin M. Collins and her husband Brian C. of Wakefield; her grandson, James M. Tierney of Boston; her brother, Roy Gelineau of Beverly; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from The O'Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq. (at Salem Common), Salem, Saturday at 8:15 a.m. followed by her funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, North Street, Peabody/Salem line at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends invited.
