Dr, Richard L. Smith, 62


South Hamilton, MA — Dr. Richard L. Smith, 62, son of the late F.L. and Alma Smith of Nahant, passed away on June 8, 2013. Born in Lynn and raised in Nahant, he lived for the past 30 years in South Hamilton, Mass.

More commonly known as "Bucky" to his family and friends, and "Rick" to his patients and coworkers, he was a graduate of St. John’s Prep, Brown University and Brown University Medical School.

After graduating from medical school, Bucky, served in the U.S. Public Health Service, providing medical care in Providence, R.I., and Cambridge, Mass. He dedicated the remainder of his career to his private family medical practice in Rowley, Mass., as well as at Hogan Regional Center and Beverly Hospital.

During his life, Bucky enjoyed the arts, hiking, scuba diving, the Boston Celtics, The Rolling Stones, and could often be found at 40 Steps Beach when visiting Nahant. To those who had known him personally and professionally he was thought of as a “mensch,” a very good person.

He is survived by three sons, Richard, Marc and Nicholas, all of New York; his sister, Martha and husband, Ken Taylor, and sister Mary; brother, Steve and wife, Nancy, all of Nahant and Dave and wife, Va,l of Kennebunkport, Maine; as well as 16 nieces and nephews, who loved him and will miss him dearly.

ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service and a reunion of family, friends, co-workers, and patients has been scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m., on Saturday, June 15, at the Nahant Coast Guard Station.
