Wenham — Mr. Donald E. Costin, 82, died Sunday evening, May 5, 2013, at his home in Wenham.
Born and raised in Swampscott, he was the son of the late John and Madeline (Morrissey) Costin.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves as a member of the Seabees.
Mr. Costin was the former proprietor of Dodge Tree Service in Wenham and prior to that he was one of the original owners of Carpenter & Costin Tree Service in Swampscott.
Active in political and civic affairs, Mr. Costin was a former Selectman for the towns of Wenham and Swampscott, a member of the Wenham Board of Health and a was an MBTA Advisory Board representative in Wenham. He also served as chairperson for the local Republican Committee and was a former member of the Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club.
A resident of Wenham for the past 23 years, Mr. Costin was an avid collector and had a passion for antique trucks. He was well-known in the community and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his friend and companion of 44-years, Donald L. Robinson of Wenham; two brothers, John Costin and his wife, Joan, of Swampscott and Philip Costin and his wife, Ollie, of Swampscott; and nieces and nephews, Mary, Karen, Kevin, John, James, Pattie, Tim, Katie, Shelia and Shawn. He was also the brother of the late Jackie Marino and Gertrude Gallant.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of St. Paul, 50 Union St., Hamilton, Friday at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell – Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly, Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Wenham Cemetery.
