Joseph “Fred” Richard, age 68, of Peabody, died peacefully on Wednesday at Beverly Hospital, with his family at his side after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Catherine (Sullivan) Richard, his wife of 18 years and of the late Marie C. (Donovan) Richard.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was the son of Doris (Doucette) Richard, of Lynn and the late Ernest Richard. He was raised in Lynn and has lived in Peabody since 1973. An all star baseball player for St. Jean Baptiste in Lynn, Fred received an athletic scholarship and attended Arizona State University.
Fred was a Veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War.
He was the former owner for 22 years of Colonial Floor Refinishing in Peabody.
An active, life member of the Franco American Post 12 and 161, he was also a member of the Board and had been the bar manager for approximately 10 years. He enjoyed golfing, collecting stamps, surfing on his computer, fishing, and aviation. He was a former coach for Peabody Little League.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his three children Brian Richard and his wife MaryAnn, of Boxford, Catherine Hill and her husband Joseph, of Wilmington, and Andrea Calo and her husband Robert, of Revere, two step-children Christine Stanley and her fiancé Gerard, of Peabody, and Michael Ryder, of Quincy, his grandchildren Alysha, Olivia, Kathryn, Julia, Joseph, Krystina, Brandon, Ashley, and Joey, his brothers Donald Richard, of Florida, and David Richard and his wife Amy, of Peabody.
ARRANGEMENTS: His Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8am from the SOLIMINE LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME 426 BROADWAY (RTE129), LYNN, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9am in St. Mary’s Chapel, Lynn. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hour's Monday 4pm-8pm.
