Lynn — Robert J. Shepherd, age 62 years, of Lynn, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was the son of Marilyn (Perry) Shepherd Leszczynski and the late James W. Shepherd. Born and raised in Lynn, Robert was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, class of 1968, and also attended St. Joseph’s as well as St. Mary’s Schools in Lynn.
He was a U.S. Marine during the Vietnam War. He was a board member and was actively involved with the DAV Chapter 64 in Lynn and was a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jamaica Plain. He also was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He often enjoyed trips into the North End in Boston where he dined out and attended Mass at Sacred Heart Church. He was a champion Golden Gloves Boxer, Lightweight Division. He also enjoyed spending time with his family especially his nieces and nephews, traveling, fishing and Candlepin bowling on local leagues. He was an avid Boston sports fan, with a special fondness for the Boston Red Sox.
Besides his mother Marilyn, Robert is survived by his brother, William Shepherd of Lynn; two sisters, Karen Shepherd Castaldo and her husband, John of Salem and Susan Shepherd Kowalski and her husband, Philip of Gloucester; several beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a dear friend Ann. He was the brother of the late Joyce Shepherd Neves and Elaine Shepherd Rodman.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from the Solimine, Landergan & Richardson Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rt129), Lynn, on Wednesday at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Lynn, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
