He was an avid Red Sox fan and golfer and a member of the USGA and the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club. His greatest enjoyment was in teaching others how to improve their swing, and he spent as much time on the practice field as he did playing golf.
He was a lifetime member of the Patria e Lavoro Society, as well as a 30-year member of the Italian American War Veterans (Vittori-Rocci Post 56). Being very active in politics, he worked on the campaigns of several local politicians and was a member of the Republican City Committee.
He was married for 58 years to Evelyn (DiPaolo) Liporto, who predeceased him in 2004. He is survived by three children, Anna James Thomson and her husband, Pat, of Boise, ID; Charles Liporto and his wife, Betty, of Manchester, N.H.; and Daniel Liporto of Beverly. He also leaves his two granddaughters, Gina Liporto and Lia Liporto, both of Manchester, .NH., as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, Ernesto and Gino Liporto and his sisters, Pauline Ryanski and Rita Tardiff, as well as his infant grandson, Gino Liporto.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot Street, Beverly, Thursday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly, Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Beverly.
