Marblehead — Benjamin Seaver Smith, 92, longtime Marblehead resident, and summer resident of Nelson, NH, died peacefully at home on February 3, after a brief illness. Ben was happily married for 51 years to the late Joan Vincent Smith. He is survived by his daughters, Marcia Read Smith and Gretchen Smith Ezell. He graduated from Belmont Hill School and Harvard College. Ben had a highly rewarding 28 year career at the Charles Stark Draper Lab in Cambridge. He participated in testing the first inertial guidance system and later helped design experiments that were carried out on the Apollo space missions.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service celebrating Ben's life will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 1 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lynn, 101 Forest Ave., Swampscott.
