Raymond, NH — Ernest A. Richards Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 22, 2014, after a long illness. He was born to Peter and Maryanna Richards on November 30, 1919. He had lived the last 21 years in Raymond, N.H., with his son, and the last five weeks of his life in Wilbraham, Mass., with his daughter. He was married for 61 years to Adeline Grace (Peters) Richards, who passed away in April of 2003.
He was a man of few words and worked hard for many years to provide for his family. He worked for G.T.E. Sylvania for over 25 years. He also owned the Abbott Yarn Shop in Beverly for a few years. Then he worked until his retirement in 1986 for Philips Electric Co. in Lynn, Mass. He and Adeline loved to travel every summer to P.E.I. and New Brunswick to work on the genealogy of the Peters and Richards families.
He and a group of friends formed a club called “The Hobokens.” They were a group, who when they started in the 1970s, had known each other for 40 years. They played cards, traveled and had a great time. He is the last of this group to pass. Lately, he spent his time at the Raymond Senior Center, where he loved to play cards with his many friends, especially his longtime friend, Irene Collette. Cribbage was one of his favorite games. He was also an avid Boston sports fan.
He is survived by a son, Ernest “Bud” Richards Jr. and his wife, Robin, of Raymond; his daughter, Kathy Phipps and her partner, Adele Paulin of Wilbraham, Mass.; three grandsons, Michael Phipps, of Kensington, N.H., Robert Phipps of Beverly, Mass., and Matthew Richards of Raymond; three great-grandchildren, Lily Phipps, Ryan Phipps and Leah Phipps; and he also leaves many nieces and nephews.
