F. Blake Cloonen, 88, of Peabody, husband of Doris (Perkins) Cloonen, died on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at the Everett Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Cloonen was born in Waltham on Nov. 17, 1923, the son of Frank and Elizabeth (McCarthy) Cloonen. He was raised in Salem Willows and graduated from Salem High School Class of 1941, then attended the Admiral Farragut Academy. In 1942, he enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard and served aboard several vessels as a Signalman, Second Class prior to receiving his honorable discharge in 1946. He then pursued his degree at Boston University obtaining his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management.
Mr. Cloonen began his career within the Massachusetts Banking Industry, with Brookline Savings Bank, Newton Savings Bank and the Mutual Advisory Corporation holding the office of Vice President and Senior Loan Officer. In 1977, Mr. Cloonen began a consulting company providing advisory services to over 100 financial institutions throughout the region.
He was a caring father who devoted his life to his children and was so proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments. His great grandchildren had a special place in his heart. Blake was a member of Meadow Brook Golf Club, life member of the K of C Lynnfield Msgr. Linnehan Chapter, the Peabody Historical Society, Council on Aging and AARP Peabody Chapter #4806.
In addition to his wife, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage, Blake is survived by his children and their spouses, Thomas B. and Linda Cloonen of Cranston, RI, and Sue Ann and Leonard Zichlin of Jericho, NY; his grandchildren Melissa, Elizabeth, Blake, Heather, Jason, Jeffrey and Sarah and 2 great-grandchildren, Hannah and Brent.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
