Salem, MA — Helen (Clancy) Guenette, age 98 of Salem, wife of the late Gerald Guenette, Sr., died Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, at the Pilgrim Nursing Home.
She was born in Lynn, MA, on July 11, 1914, the daughter of the late Daniel and Bridget (Broderick) Clancy. A graduate of Lynn Classical High School Class of 1932, she was employed by the General Electric Company of Lynn, where she met her late husband.
While raising her family, she was an assistant girl scout leader. As a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, she helped establish their Thrift Shop, where she volunteered for many years. She also volunteered at Shaughnessy Rehabilitation Hospital, the Brooke House, and local nursing homes. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Over the years, Mrs. Guenette enjoyed taking night classes. She loved cooking, sewing, reading, and discussing current events.
She is survived by a son, Gerald Guenette, Jr. of Cambridge, and a daughter Kathleen and her husband Robert Flanigan of Lynnfield, a sister-in-law Priscilla Landes of San Mateo, CA, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers James and Daniel Clancy, and two sisters, Catherine McHugh and Alice Moley.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held on Thursday April 4, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North St.), Salem, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn.
