Danvers, MA — Mr. Richard J. Travers Sr., 86, of Danvers, beloved husband of Florence (Worrell) Travers, died Tuesday, April 9, at the Peabody Glen Health Care Center in Peabody.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Bernard and Gertrude (Sullivan) Travers. Richard was raised and educated in Boston and Roxbury and was a graduate of Mission High School. He continued his education graduating from Boston College in 1950. Later in life he acquired his master electrician’s license.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard during World War II.
Richard had been employed as an accountant and as an electrician.
An active family man Richard enjoyed flying, boating, swimming, hunting, golf and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his beloved wife of 62 years, Richard is survived by his children, Ann Marie Mulvee and her husband Richard, of Bedford, N.H., Elaine Abbondanza and her husband David. of Pinckney, Mich., Richard J. Travers, Jr. and his wife Lynne, of Topsfield, Barbara Wright and her husband William, of Pepperell, and Paul Francis Travers and his wife Joanne, of Ipswich, his 11 grandchildren, his nine great-grandchildren, his sisters, Mary Mulvey of Scituate and Miriam McMorrow of San Francisco, Calif., and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Bernard F. Travers and Patricia Travers.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Rte. 62), Danvers, Saturday, April 13, at 8:15 a.m., followed by his funeral Mass in St. Mary of Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers, at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial will be in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers.
