Maggie M. (Sotuyo) Hartigan, 57

Peabody — Maggie M. (Sotuyo) Hartigan, who died on Thursday, January 3, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a long illness, at 57 years.

Mrs. Hartigan was born in Brownsville, Texas, lived there most of her life and was a 1975 alumna of Homer Hanna High School in Brownsville, Texas. She was a waitress for several area restaurants in Brownsville before coming to West Peabody 12 years ago. For several years, she worked in the Peabody School system as a teacher's aide before joining the security team at Logan Airport where she was employed as a TSA until her health began to fail. Throughout her long and arduous illness, she never became negative nor did she lose her uncanny and immense sense of humor and wit. She was an outstanding wife, mother, sister, daughter, niece, cousin, grandmother & colleague. Her almost contagious laugh and hearty attitude will long be remembered by all. She was an exceptionally enthusiastic cheerleader at her children's sporting events.

She is the beloved wife of 22 years, to Paul E. Hartigan. She is the cherished mother of John Michael Mejorado of Brownsville, Texas, Paul E. and Siobhan J. Hartigan both of Peabody. She is the adored daughter of Ester (Olvera) Sotuyo of Brownsville, Texas, and the late Gilbert Sotuyo. She is the dear sister of Gloria S. Flesner of Houston, Texas, Gilbert Sotuyo, Jr. and his wife, Terry, Rosy Johnson and her husband, Robert, Joey Sotuyo and his wife, Penny, Jimmy S. Sotuyo, Norma Salazar and her husband, Jerry, all of Brownsville, Texas, and the late Danny Sotuyo. She is also lovingly survived by her grandson, Levi Mejorado, and many caring nieces and nephews; and the large extended Hartigan family of the North Shore and beyond. Maggie was also the daughter-in-law of the late Dr. William J. Hartigan and Marion P. (Brown) Hartigan. Dr. Hartigan was the retired Assistant Postmaster General for the Bureau of Transportation and International Services, under JFK. All of her family and most especially, her nieces and nephews, will hold her "in the palm of their hand," for her dignity, strength, compassion and grace. The family acknowledges with grateful hearts the extraordinary care of Dr. Alain Chaoui and Dr. Stephanie Moore as well as the entire staff of North Shore Hospice.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, January 10, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere. All are asked to report directly to church. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in memory of Maggie Hartigan to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Central New England Chapter, 101 First Ave., Waltham, MA 02454.
