Gerald A. "Gerry" Dooling, 76


Beverly — Gerald A. “Gerry” Dooling, 76, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Janet M. (Nealley) Dooling.

Born in Beverly, on May 27, 1936, he was the son of the late C. Frederick and Annette (Dionne) Dooling. He was a lifelong resident of Beverly and has enjoyed spending time at his home in York Beach, Maine, since 1984. He was a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1954, where he was an all-star athlete in football and baseball, earning him a scholarship to the University of Connecticut. There he quarterbacked the football team to the Yankee Conference Championship in 1956. Following college, he entered the insurance field, becoming the Claims Manager for the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company in the Boston office. After taking early retirement, he became a consultant for Electric Insurance in Beverly.

Gerry loved spending time with his family and friends and especially watching his sons and grandchildren play sports. He also enjoyed lunch with friends, walks on York Beach and exploring the coast of Maine. Known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, he will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, Gerry is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn D. and Janice Dooling of Beverly and Peter K. and Caroline Dooling of South Portland, Maine; four cherished grandchildren, Michael and William Dooling both of Beverly and Kelly and Katie Dooling both of South Portland; a brother and two sisters-in-law, John “Jack” and Connie Dooling of Beverly and Mary Dooling of Danvers and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Pat Mahoney and three brothers, Fred, Bob and Tom Dooling.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service was privately held on Friday, in the Central Cemetery, Beverly. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
