Mary Fiveash Severance, 91


Marblehead — Mary Fiveash Severance of Marblehead, Massachusetts, died on January 26, 2013, at age 91. She was born on August 13, 1921, in Brunswick, Georgia, the daughter of Charles and Ruby Mathis Fiveash.

Mary graduated from Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Georgia, in 1939. She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia, graduating in 1943. Mary worked for Five Transportation following college. In 1945, she married Frederick Severance from Peabody, Massachusetts, who had been stationed with the Coast Guard on St. Simons Island, Georgia.

Mary and Fred moved to Manchester, NH, to start Seal Tanning Co. In 1975 the couple retired to Marblehead and to St. Simons Island in Georgia. In Manchester, Mary was a deacon at the First Baptist Church and a member of the Board of Directors of the Elliot Hospital.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Fred, in 1989. Mary is survived by her son and his wife, Ted and Ann Severance of Manchester, NH, and by her daughter and her husband, Kay and Gary Eisenhower of Marblehead, MA. Mary’s four grandchildren are Abbey Eisenhower and her husband, Philip Groth of Somerville, MA; Pike Severance and his wife, Jessica, of Bedford, NH; Beth Eisenhower and her husband, Langford Davidson of Somerville, MA; and David Severance of Manchester, NH. Mary’s great-grandson, Henry Eisenhower Groth, has been a sparkle for Mary in her last year of life.

Mary is also survived by her two brothers and their wives, Charles and Dorothy Fiveash of Aiken, North Carolina, and James and Clara Fiveash of Brunswick, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
