Peabody — John J. Danda, age 92, beloved husband of Minerva (Pellegrini) Danda, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage, died Wednesday, January 23, at Peabody Glen Health Care Center. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Antonio and Angelina (Adami) Danda.
Raised and educated in Peabody, he worked in his father’s leather business after graduating from school until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in World War II. He served as a Sergeant in the 65th Air Service Group and maintained telephone and telegraph systems in the Asiatic and Western Pacific Theatre, part of which he served sixteen months on Saipan and Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged in January 1946 and resumed working in the leather business until it closed. He also did maintenance at the former J.B. Thomas Hospital until his retirement.
He was a member of the St. Thomas Club, Danvers Field and Game Club and the American Legion.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a loving and devoted daughter, Diane Vallis and her husband Christopher of Lynnfield, a brother-in-law, Robert Pellegrini of Peabody, a sister-in-law, Ann Pellegrini, wife of the late Gene Pellegrini of Beverly and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Blanche Moulton of Beverly and Angelina Siano of Atlanta, GA.
