SALEM — Donald J. Michaud, 93, of Salem, died February 6, 2013 at home in the company of his loving family. He was the husband of Mary (Rothwell) Michaud.
Born in Salem, MA, Donald was the son of the late Alexandre and Phoebe (Lachance) Michaud. Donald was a graduate of Salem High School Class of 1938. In 1942 Don joined the Marine Corps to serve his country during World War Two. Donald served with the 4th Division and was involved in engagements in Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima during his three years of duty. He was Honorably discharged after the War as a Corporal.
Don returned home and started the North Shore Glass Company of Salem which he owned and operated from 1946 until 1988. Outside of work, Mr. Michaud was a 4th Degree member of the Fr. Druillette Assembly and a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus of Salem, the Marine Corps League in Peabody, the Richelieu Club and the V.F.W. Donald was also the Past President of the Salem Kiwanis Club.
Along with his wife, Mary, Donald is survived by two sons; Donald Michaud and his wife Catherine of Marblehead, and David Michaud of Salem, six daughters; Mary Lou Gauthier and her husband Donald of Salem, Susanne Drucas Michaud of Beverly, Jeannette Michaud of Florida, Louise Michaud of Salem, Amy Michaud of Georgetown, MA, and Carolyn Michaud of Peabody, eleven grandchildren; DJ Gauthier, Michael Gauthier, Amy Fraser, 1st Sgt. Jay Drucas U.S. Army, Kevin Drucas, Elissa Gillis, Lloyd Michaud, Julie Michaud, Alyssa Knesek, Corinne Michaud and Benjamin Michaud, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Donald was the last of his brothers and sisters; Raymond Michaud, J. Alexander Michaud, Charles “Vic” Michaud, Doris Michaud, Aime Radway, Eva O'Connell, George Michaud, and Hattie Palm.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd. Salem, Tuesday from 4-7 pm. Funeral Mass will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church Wednesday at 10 am. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Corps League Detachment 127, PO Box 3141, Peabody, MA 01961. Arrangements are through the Berube & Sons Funeral Home of Salem.
