Beverly Farms — Anne Marie (Leahy) Pope, age 81, of Beverly Farms passed away on February 12, 2013, at Beverly Hospital after a brief illness. She was born, April 19, 1931, in Bath, Maine, to Marion (Tracey) and Edward C. Leahy.
Anne married the late, Gardner “Gunner” Pope in 1948. They had three daughters, Suzanne, Jayne, and Nancy. She was educated at St. Margaret’s School in Beverly Farms, Beverly High School and Burdett College.
Employed in the restaurant business for many years, she eventually changed careers to become a popular North Shore real estate agent. After Gunner’s retirement they opened the Prides Deli in Prides Crossing where she “held court” daily with their many loyal customers. Anne lived in Beverly Farms her entire life. Her extended family crossed multiple generations. Anne enjoyed sunny summers in Beverly Farms whether it was lounging by her pool or cruising in her convertible. She had a sharp wit and was always ready with thoughtful and spot-on guidance for her family and many friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Pope Audette and her husband, Richard Audette of Rocky Neck, Jayne L. Pope of Beverly Farms, and Nancy L. Pope of Danvers; brothers, Edward Leahy and John Leahy, both of Beverly. She also leaves behind her grandson, Adam Audette, his fiancé, Katherine Russo; step-great-granddaughter, Carly Bigelow and great-granddaughter, Alexandra Audette, all of Beverly Farms.
ARRANGEMENTS: A wake will be held on Friday, February 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 9 Dane Street in Beverly. There will be a private burial for immediate family only. On Saturday, February 16, there will be a celebration of her life open to all family and friends in the Garden Room at the Danversport Yacht Club, 161 Elliott Street, Danvers, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Donations in her memory can be made to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970 or the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
