Roger Gerald Joseph Noiseux, 75

Marblehead — Roger Gerald Joseph Noiseux, 75, of Marblehead, formerly of Salem, entered into rest after a hard fought battle with lung cancer Friday morning, February 15, 2013, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Lois (Sugarman) Longin-Noiseux. Born in Swampscott, son of the late Joseph and Dorilla (Benoit) Noiseux.

Mr. Noiseux was a resident of Marblehead for the past forty years. He was raised in Salem and a graduate of Salem High School. In 1955, he enlisted in the Navy and was part of the submarine corps serving on the nuclear powered submarine USS Nautilius.

Mr. Noiseux was the owner and operator of RGN Construction, located on Loring Avenue in Salem and RMD Property Management. Roger was very proud that he built over four hundred houses on the North Shore of Boston. He also specialized in the remodeling and updating of homes. Mr. Noiseux was an avid golfer and skier, enjoyed playing backgammon and loved all sports, especially baseball and the Boston Red Sox. Roger was also an animal lover and supported many different animal rescue organizations.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by two devoted stepchildren, Melissa Longin and her husband, Adam Wolff of Andover and Todd Longin and his wife, Erin of Cambridge; his loving sister, Elaine Galeone and her husband, Frank of Timonium, Md.; three cherished grandchildren, Kyle and Ryan Wolff and Lucas Longin.

ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services at Temple Emanu-El, 393 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead, on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. Interment at Temple Emanu-El Memorial Park, Danvers. Memorial observance will be held at his late residence from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2013, and from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970 or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.     Danvers — Lorraine Vera Sandt, 90, died peacefully on July 17, 2014, at Kaplan Family Hospice House, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her three children; Judy Krusell and her husband, David Landy of Shrewsbury, N.J, Jan Krusell and his wife, Diane Carroll of Beverly, and Lauren Sideri of Danvers. She leaves her beloved grandchildren, Sarah Landy of New York City, Seth Landy and his wife, Jaching Landy of San Francisco, Calif., Scott Carroll and his wife, Rayna Carroll of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., Sean Carroll and his wife, Danielle Linzer of Ridgewood, N.Y., Nicholas Sideri and his wife, Gillian Sideri of Peabody, and Douglas Sideri of Gloucester. In addition she leaves four precious great-grandchildren, Aleka and Aspen Carroll, and Nicholas and Nolan Sideri. She was also blessed with three wonderful caretakers, Kris Berry Hurton, Yamilca Diaz and Gayle Brunet.

    Salem — Rene A. Ouellette, 92, husband of the late Margaret (Jackson) Ouellette and the late Rosalie (Barbarino) Getchell-Ouellette, died on July 27, 2014, at Canton Nursing Center, Canton, Ga., following a brief illness. Born in Salem, Mass., he was the son of the late Alfred and Blanche (Berube) Ouellette. He was raised and educated in Salem schools. During World War II, Mr Ouellette proudly served in the United States Army in several battles, including D-Day. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his service to country. Following his discharge, he worked at the United States Post Office in Lynn, Mass., where he was employed for 25 years as a postal clerk, until his retirement.

    Peabody MA — Robert W. Cody, 74, of Hampton, N.H., and formerly of Peabody, Mass., died peacefully at his residence on Sunday, July 27, 2014, with his family at his side, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Patricia M. (Hayes) Cody and the late Carolyn J. (Newhall) Cody. He was born in East Boston on January 28, 1940, and was the son of the late Walter and Lorraine (Doyle) Cody. He was raised, educated and resided in Peabody. He later moved to Phoenix, Ariz., before moving back to Hampton 15 years ago. Bob had been a manager for Martin Liquor Distributors for many years. Later, he became a salesman for Sears Department Stores in Arizona for eight years prior to his retirement. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served in Korea before his discharge in 1964. Bob enjoyed going camping in New Hampshire and at Lake Sebago, Maine. But his favorite time was spent being with his family.

    Lynn, MA — Earline (Cheever) Faneuf, age 89, of Lynn, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Arthur J. Faneuf. Born in Lynn, she spent most of her childhood in the Bronx, and she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Quinn) Cheever. Prior to her retirement, she worked in the shoe factory and several local nursing homes. Earline loved her family and was an avid knitter and enjoyed crocheting and bingo. She is survived by her children, Dianne Forbes of Peabody, Janice and Jeffrey Kaplan of Peabody, James Faneuf of Lynn and Joanne and Bruce Caron of Lynn; her grandchildren, Christopher Bettencourt, Jason Bettencourt, the late Brandon Bettencourt, Tyler Kaplan, Michael Caron, Stephen Caron and Jonathan Caron; great-grandchildren, Sara Mangiafico, Arianna Kaplan, Jackson Kaplan, Aliana Caron and Alex Caron; her Aunt Shirley Lebrasseur and cousin, Sharon Forand, both of Lynn, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Donald Cheever and Joseph Cheever.

She was employed as a medical transcriptionist for over 30 years before retiring several years ago. She regularly attended the book club at the Flint Library and played Scrabble at the Danvers Library. She was a devoted reader of books and the news, a talented artist, and in her youth she loved to sail. She is survived by her two loving children, Alex and Sarah Gershaw; her beloved brother, Paul Azer and her aunt and uncle, Barbara and Jack Smuckler. She graduated from Lynn Classical High School, majored in Psychology at Boston University, received Bachelors in Social Work at Salem State, Master's in Rehabilitation Counseling from Northeast University, and was an honorable mention as a National Merit Scholar.

  • Chism attorney wants 'youthful offender' indictments dismissed

    Philip Chism's attorney will argue that the state's "youthful offender" law, which requires that the Danvers teen be tried as an adult in last fall's rape and murder of his teacher, is unconstitutional.
    In documents filed Monday, defense attorney Denise Regan contends that the statute, enacted in 1996, creates two classes of children within the court system, distinguishing them based solely on the charge.

    Art, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder. Which is why politicians and public officials often seek to avoid making judgments on public art. A wrong decision can create a furor.

    That might explain the caution of Ipswich selectmen as resident Rick Silverman proposes to honor his late wife and grace the town with an elegant sculpture on the North Green. Treading lightly lest they offend or preemptively reject the offer, they voted last week to set up a board that will advise them on what is and what isn’t welcome in Ipswich’s public spaces.
