Marie A. Henderson, 97


Beverly — Marie A. Henderson died Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the age of 97. She was the wife of the late William P. Henderson.

A lifelong resident of Beverly, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Margaret (Galvin) Tobin. She was a graduate of Beverly High School, class of 1932, and Beverly Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1936.

Prior to her marriage, she was employed as a registered nurse in local hospitals. In her later years she worked at the Girdler House Retirement Home. An active member of the community, she served as a Board member of the Girdler House, and she belonged to the Beverly Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association, St. Mary’s Sodality, the Beverly Historical Society, the Beverly Improvement Society, and the Children’s Friend and Family Service, where she volunteered in the thrift shop for many years. She was also an avid bridge player and a lifelong member of West Beach where she spent many happy summer days. Throughout her long life, her warm personality afforded her the opportunity to form many close and enduring friendships.

She is survived by her daughters, Julie Jersyk and her husband Philip, of Beverly and Ann M. Henderson of New York City, her granddaughter, Alexandra Ricciuti and her husband James, two great-grandchildren Inez and Nathaniel Ricciuti, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late William J Tobin Jr, and grandmother of the late Philip W. Jersyk.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Cabot St., Beverly, Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Visiting hours in the Campbell–Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly (North Beverly location), Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in the North Beverly Cemetery.
