Neil Joseph "Nap" Hobey, 75


Peabody — Neil Joseph “Nap” Hobey, 75, of Peabody, died early Tuesday morning at the Essex Park Nursing Home in Beverly following a brief illness.

Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Neil W. and Mary (Hughes) Hobey. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1956.

After graduating from high school, Nap was employed for over 43 years as a machinist at the former United Shoe in Beverly before retiring 13 years ago.

Nap was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles, especially with his dear friend, Billy Burke.

Nap is survived by his son, Neil T. Hobey of Peabody; his daughter, Donna Cady of Puyallup, Wash.; his brother, Dr. William “Bill” and his wife, Ruth Hobey, of Sutton; his two sisters, Mary T. MacDonald of Peabody and Joan Bilodeau of Raymond, N.H.; and is also survived by two grandchildren, Bryan Cady of Calif., and Dayna Cady of Wash.

ARRANGEMENTS: Following cremation, his visitation will be held on Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home and burial services will be private.
