Longmeadow, MA — Bettirose Eisner, 86, beloved wife for 52 years of the late Myron M. Eisner, passed away after a brief illness at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Mass., Monday night, September 16, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was born in Pittsfield, Mass., to the late Morris and Rebecca (Lubetsky) Horelly, the youngest of six children. She was educated in Pittsfield, graduating from Pittsfield High School, went on to the University of Indiana and Boston University, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Later in life she attained a Master's Degree in Special Education from Westfield State University. Bettirose worked for several years as a substitute teacher in the Springfield school system. After receiving her Master's Degree in Special Education, she went on to teach special education classes for the state of Massachusetts until her retirement. She was also a religious teacher at Beth El Synagogue in Springfield for many years. Bettirose was a member of The College Club. The College Club is a private membership organization founded in 1890, as the first women's college club in the United States. She served as president of her condo association in West Palm Beach, Fla., where she spent the winter months. Bettirose took up golf, later in life, which pleased her husband, Mike, who had been an avid golfer for many years. She then joined a women's golf league, becoming very active, eventually becoming the league's president. She greatly enjoyed mahjong, playing regularly for over 60 years, and through this activity, and golfing, developed some of her closest friendships. Bettirose is survived by two children, Dr. Deborah Eisner of Haverhill, Dr. Richard Eisner and his wife, Therese (Champagne) Eisner, of Salem, two grandchildren, Rebecca Carver of Charlotte, N.C., Michael Eisner of Salem, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Bettirose was predeceased by her siblings, Nathan Horelly, Jeanne Perlman, Sophie Goldstein, Max Horelly and Harry Horelly.
Funeral services will be held at the Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Sunday, September 22, 2013, at 11 a.m., with burial in City of Homes Cemetery. Following the burial, Shiva will be at Glen Meadow, 24 Tabor Crossing, Longmeadow, MA 01106.
