Beverly — Gerald E. (Jerry) Cole Jr., 77, of Beverly, died on Monday September 23, 2013, at Beverly Hospital in Beverly.

Born in Bangor, Maine, Gerald was the son of the late Marquerite (Bryant) and Gerald E. Cole. He was raised and educated in Bangor. He was a proud, honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy. Jerry worked at the U.S. Post Office in Beverly for over 25 years, retiring in 2007.

Gerald’s first love was woodworking, as well as tending to his vegetable garden. He was an avid fisherman, who also liked to grill and cook. One of his biggest joy in life was traveling with wife, Rita, on the many trips they have taken. Jerry was a devoted husband, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and friend, who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, with whom he shared 35 years of marriage, Rita E. (Jacques) (Deharo) Cole of Beverly; two stepsons, Emmanuel J. Deharo his companion, Sylvia Spolsino of Allenstown, N.H., Roger J. Deharo and his wife, Carol, of Nashua, N.H.; two stepdaughters, Rita D. Etherington and her husband, Alan, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Susan C. Ricci of Beverly; one brother, Errol Cole and his wife, Paula, of Lynn, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his two stepsons, Arthur J. Deharo and Jean Paul Deharo.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours are at the Campbell-Lee, Moody Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly, on Friday September 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
