Peabody — Miguel R. Carroca, 76, of Peabody, died Wednesday afternoon surrounded by his family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Maria (Couto) Carroca with whom he shared over 52 years of marriage.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose and Maria (Couto) Carroca. He later immigrated with his family to the United States and had been a resident of Peabody for the past 42 years.
In Portugal, Miguel served in the military and worked as a stone mason and carpenter. In America, he was first employed in the leather industry for many years before he became a prep cook at the Land & Sea Restaurant in Peabody for 15 years before retiring several years ago.
Miguel enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and camping, making his wine, and he really enjoyed playing his harmonica, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and sharing in all of their endeavors.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Jose and his partner, Claudia, Miguel and his wife, Rosa, Grace and her husband, Brian Charland, and Carlos and his wife, Ana; four brothers and their spouses, Manuel, Antonio, Mariano, and Joao; and is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Lisa, Connie and her husband, Joshua, Cecilie and her husband, Antonio, Tiffany, Michael, Bryan, Elson and by several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: His visitation will be held on Friday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave., at 9:00 AM Saturday to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
