Danvers — Bertram L. Martin, 86 years, husband of Eileen (LeClair) Martin, died Tuesday evening, February 25, 2014, at the Hunt Nursing Home in Danvers, following a long illness. Born in Salem, Mr. Martin was the son of the late John L. and Jennie (Connors) Martin. He attended Salem Public Schools. Following his education, Mr. Martin entered the United States Army and serviced his country during WWII, achieving the rank of Private First Class.
Mr. Martin was a former resident of Salem in the Symonds Street neighborhood where he had lived for many years. He was employed with Parker Brothers for 42 years until his retirement in 1985.
Surviving him in addition to his wife are seven children, Thomas Martin and his wife, Leah, of Salem, Richard Martin and his wife, Deborah, of Beverly, Brian Martin of Salem, NH, Kevin Martin and his wife, Brenda, of Port St. Lucie, FL, David Martin of Methuen, Carol Lavoie and her husband, James, of North Conway, NH and Linda Prince and her husband, Steven, of Peabody. He had a very large extended family. Mr. Martin was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, John, Walter, Bernard, Mary Levesque, Shirley Pinkham, Thelma Jacquin, Barbara Backe and Louise Raczkowski.
ARRANGEMENTS: Mr. Martin’s funeral will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (corner of North St.), Salem, on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday morning. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem.
