He sold his company in 1987 and moved to Englewood, Fla., worked in real estate, commercial landscaping, and did favors by volunteering and helping out neighbors and neighborhoods projects, often before they realized they needed help. It was being kind to a stranger’s grandchild who was afraid of a hammock when he fell breaking his neck and suffering a spinal cord injury; technically becoming a quadriplegic. He became proficient in driving his motorized wheelchair, racing across the causeway and around the Whittemore arena while at his grandson's hockey games. He enjoyed reading, watching sports, sitting in the sun, and the Tuesday club.
