Marblehead — Charles William Freeto, 86, of Marblehead, passed away at home after a long courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family on August 20, 2013. He was the beloved husband of June (McElmon) Freeto, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Born in Marblehead, he was the son of the late Raymond Lawrence Freeto of Marblehead and Ann (Cunningham) Freeto of Ireland.
He was part of the “Greatest Generation,” drafted at the age of 17, serving during WWII and Korea in the United States Army. Charles was a painting and building contractor in Bourne and Marblehead for many years. He also operated the Muffin Man Shop in Marblehead. Upon retirement, he enjoyed time with his grandchildren, attending sporting events, and traveling across the country with his wife.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Nancy Hosman and her husband, Fran, of Marblehead; two sisters, Eileen St. Pierre of Swampscott, and Maryann Kelleher of Marblehead; two grandsons, Colin and Ryan Hosman; and several nieces, nephews, and longtime friends. He was also the brother of the late Raymond Freeto.
ARRANGEMENTS: A graveside service with honors will be held in Waterside Cemetery, 294 West Shore Drive, Marblehead on Friday, August 23, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
