Bonita Humphry Black, 104


Newton Falls — Bonita Humphry Black, 104, of Salem, Mass., the wife of the late Reverend Dr. Oliver K. Black, died at the Stone Institute, Newton Lower Falls, on August 4, 2013.

Born in Volga, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ella (Frey) Humphrey. Mrs Black attended Northwestern University School of speech. She and her late husband formed a wonderful partnership, serving church and civic communities in which they lived and traveling worldwide.

After moving to Salem in 1976, she became an active volunteer with many local organizations, including the Peabody Essex Museum.

Mrs. Black is survived by two daughters, Deborah Berman of Boston, and Penelope Bonneau of Plano, Texas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
