Edith A. Mackey, 84


Danvers, MA — Edith A. (Turenne) Mackey, age 84, and a lifelong resident of Danvers, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2013. She was the loving wife of Elias J. Mackey with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.

Born December 28, 1928, she was the daughter of Henry and Mabel (Stevens) Turenne.

Edith was a graduate of the Holten High School and later assisted her husband with the family business. She was a homemaker and mother to five boys, Vincent, Timothy, Jeffrey, Kenneth and his partner, Chris McDonough, Daniel and his wife, Krista; and two close family members, Kathy and Sandy Mackey. Her greatest joy was being part of the St. Mary of the Annunciation parish. Mrs. Mackey was a member of Our Lady’s Sodality, the choir and many other volunteer groups run by the church. Edith was an entertainer in her younger days and enjoyed performing in the local minstrel shows. She enjoyed being a CCD teacher for many years, meeting with her girls "club," vacationing at Salisbury Beach. and volunteering wherever she was needed.

Edie was a very caring and thoughtful person that will be missed by many.

Besides her sons, she leaves her loving grandchildren, Holly, Andrew, Lytania, Joy, Crystal, Nicole, Josh, Brendan and Sean; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Josh, Camron and Ella. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her angel grandchild, Rachael E. Mackey; and a daughter in-law, Christine. The family would like to thank the Kaplan Family Hospice House for the care and kindness that was provided.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visitation on Wednesday at the Mackey Funeral Home, from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Edith at her parish home, St. Mary of the Annunciation Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Annunciation cemetery. The family would like donations made in her name to the Danvers People-to-People Food Pantry, P.O. Box 2076, Danvers MA. Donations will go towards helping children during the upcoming holidays.
