Edith E. (Hansen) Sanborn, 97


Methuen — Edith E. (Hansen) Sanborn, 97, of Methuen, Mass., passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Methuen. Edith was born in Marblehead, Mass., on March 23, 1916, and was the daughter of the late Rasmus and Anna (Granberg) Hansen.

She was raised in Marblehead and attended Marblehead schools. While raising her 10 children, Edith was an LPN for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at Danvers State Hospital.

Edith loved spending time in Florida, and upon her retirement, moved to Florida and spent 15 years there. Missing her children and grandchildren, she came back to enjoy time with her very large family. Family gatherings continuously grew, and every time she had one a new member was added to the family. Edith had 10 children, 36 grandchildren, 118 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Edith was a member of the Middleton Congregational Church in Middleton, Mass.

Edith will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all.

Edith is survived by her children, Claire Jones of North Reading, Thomas Sanborn and his wife, Janet, of Kingston, N.H., Carol D’Urso of Methuen, and Virginia Hull and her husband, Michael, of St. Augustine, Fla.; her daughters-in-law, Barbara Sanborn of Middleton, Jane Sanborn of New Hampshire, and Linda Sanborn of Haverhill; and her son-in-law, Dale Churchill of Inglewood, Fla. She was predeceased by six of her children, Richard, William and Robert Sanborn, Edith Seavy, Barbara Churchill and Betty Burbine.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, November 7, from 3 to 7 p.m., at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. Her funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visiting hours at 7 p.m., in the funeral home chapel.
