Beverly — Donald K. Hannable of Beverly, beloved husband of Bonnie (Beebe Frye) Hannable, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family on October 26, 2012. Born in Beverly on March 8, 1935, he was the son of the late D. Walker Hannable and Ethel (Goldsmith) Hannable. He was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1953 and Boston University in 1957. He was a lifelong resident who loved the City of Beverly.
Don worked as a Controller for Harmonic Drive Technologies (a former division of USM Corporation), located in Peabody, and he retired in 1999, after more than 40 years of service. He was a member of the USM Corporation’s Quarter Century Club.
Don was a coach in Beverly Little League in the 1970s, and an At-Large member of the Beverly School Committee from 1976 to 1993, serving four terms as Chairperson. He served on the School Committee for a total of 18 years, and never lost his interest in Beverly Public Schools and city government. Don was a director of the Beverly Scholarship Foundation (now known as Beverly Dollars for Scholars). He enjoyed many kinds of sports, especially the Red Sox and Patriots, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by three sons: Edward (Chipper), William (Danny) and David and his wife Michelle (Lemelin), all of Beverly; and two daughters; Gail and her fiancé Stephen Mitchell of Beverly, and Donna and her husband Travis Dunton of Peabody. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Ryan, Mark and Courtney Hannable of Beverly and Lisa and April Hannable of Salem.
Other survivors include two stepsons, Shaun Frye, his wife Cynthia (St. Pierre) and Douglas Frye, his wife Janet (Perez), and their son, Elias Bailey Frye, all of Salem; nephew Scott Hannable of West Hills, CA, and his son, Kyle; numerous nieces and nephews who live locally; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Beebe and his wife Melvena, Harold Frye and his wife Mary, sister-in-law Jean Beebe, all from OH; sister-in-law Linda Beebe of FL; plus members of Bonnie’s large family in OH.
