Marilyn Budgell Shuler, 86

Issaquah, WA — Marilyn Budgell Shuler, 86, passed away on October 26, 2012, at Swedish Hospital in Issaquah, WA. She was the wife of the late Sanford A. Shuler.

Born in Salem on August 30, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Rodger and Lillian (Morgan) Budgell. She had resided in Issaquah, WA, for the past 39 years. Marilyn graduated from Danvers High School in 1944, Colby Jr. College in New London, NH, in 1946 and graduate training programs from General Electric Company. Marilyn’s professional career commenced with the General Electric Company as Personnel supervisor, then continued at GEN-RAD of Concord MA. She then became the Director of Human Resources for the Winchester Hospital in Winchester, Vice President of Human Resources for the American Broadcasting Company. In later years, Marilyn and her husband owned and operated Mount Rainier Vintners in Puyallup WA. And later owned and operated a precious metals facility in Nevada.

She is survived by her children, Alison Kent Williams of Chesapeake, VA, and Steven C. Kent of Renton, WA; her five grandchildren, Kyra, Janine, Ian, Preston and Kyle; her great-granddaughter Mikayla and her brother Rodger C. Budgell and his wife Phyllis of Danvers and many nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers.   • H. Gerard Donohie, 84

    Danvers, MA — H. Gerard “Gerry” Donohie, 84, of Collegeville, Penn., and formerly of Danvers and Peabody, Mass., died on Friday, June 14, after a short illness. He was the loving husband of Patricia (Kelley) Donohie. He was born in Philadelphia, Penn., on May 2, 1929, and was raised there, graduating from Villanova College. He had been in sales with the Jet Engine division of General Electric in Lynn for over 30 years, prior to his retirement. He had first resided in Peabody, where he had been a member and past president of the Peabody Jaycees, and later moved to Danvers. He enjoyed boating, and had been a member of the Squares-in-Focus Square Dance group of Peabody. He and his wife, Pat were active members of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers before moving back to Collegeville. Jerry enjoyed history and traveling, and he and his wife, Pat had traveled to over 100 countries. He is survived by his wife, Pat of Collegeville; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul and Audrey Donohie, Mark Donohie and John Dohohie; a granddaughter, Elicia Donohie; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Eileen Donohie- Hall and the brother of the late Paul Donohie and Rev. John Donohie.

    Peabody — Isadore "Izzy" Schorr, a lifelong resident of Peabody, entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 17, at the age of 87 years. He was born on November 1, 1925, in Montreal, Canada, and moved to Peabody, Mass., with his parents and sisters during the Depression of the 1930s. He was the son of Sam and Celia Schorr. He was educated in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School in 1942. He was a veteran of World War II, and served with the U.S. Army in Europe and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge.

  • Emil Szmyd, 83

    Peabody MA — Emil Szmyd, 83, of Peabody, died Saturday at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Theresa (Lewicki) Szmyd, who died in 2006. According to family legend, Emil’s mother, Victoria Szmyd, a native of Newmarket, N.H., gave birth to him on the steps of the U.S. Embassy in Poland on May 20, 1930. He later immigrated to the U.S. in 1950, after being raised by his grandmother while Russian and German soldiers occupied his village of Lubla, Poland, during WW II. After reuniting with his family in the U.S., Emil learned how to repair houses from his stepfather and became an electrician. He joined the IBEW Local 259 in Salem, later retiring from Local 103 in 1992. He worked all over the North Shore. He was also the vice president and an active member of the Polish Falcons Nest 188 of Salem. He enjoyed playing cards, watching birds, playing harmonica, and being with his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Edward Szmyd, Richard and his wife, Catherine Szmyd and Robert and his wife, Tara Szmyd all of Peabody; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Maggiemae, Isabella, and Rose Szmyd; his sisters, Irene, Marilyn and her husband, Ron; and his cousins, Walter, Oleshia, Joe, Tadeck, Statia, and Teresa.

She was the loving wife of 56 years to retired Peabody Firefighter Theodore “Teddy” Thrasivoulos. She was born in Salem, Mass., and was the daughter of the late Elmer W. and Leola (Goodwin) Hall. Raised in Salem, she graduated from Salem High School. In 1957, she entered and won the Miss Salem beauty contest. Nancy loved to sew and take trips down to Salem Willows. She was an avid fisherwoman and enjoyed surfcasting in the waters at Plum Island and Martha’s Vineyard. She also loved to travel to Europe, and had gone to Bermuda five times on Mother’s Day. Her most enjoyment was in the raising of her two children.

    San Diego, CA — Don was born and raised in Beverly, Mass., the only child of Edith and Edward Prisby. He attended the University of Idaho, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He married the love of his life, Marie T. O'Conor of Peabody, Mass., on Mare Island in San Francisco on September 10, 1952. He proudly served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for 27 years before retiring in 1977 when he, Marie, and their children moved to San Diego. Don was employed by the City of San Diego in Parks and Recreation, preserving open space for 14 years. He was an avid fan of the Padres and was an active parishioner of the Mission San Diego de Alcala. He spent many hours volunteering at the Franklin Elementary School, at the Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital and was a Docent on the USS Midway. He is survived by children, Kathleen Damon (Wallis) of Virginia Beach, Eileen Prisby of San Diego, Patricia Fumagalli of San Diego, Donald E. Prisby Jr. (Elizabeth) of Plymouth, Minn., Liz Andrews (Bruce) of Sunset, S.C., and Edie Lufkin of Ipswich, Mass.; and grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, Andrew, and Caroline Damon, Anthony and Dante Fumagalli, and Michael, Matthew, and Mitchell Prisby.
