Reverend Joseph S. Lukas, 90


Braintree — Reverend Joseph S. Lukas, age 90, of Braintree passed away on February, 26, 2013, at South Shore Hospital. Beloved brother of the late Mary Jamiol and Alice Lukas of Braintree, Nephews Leonard Jamiol of Braintree, Gregory Jamiol of Medford and niece Valerie Strazdas of Braintree. He was born in Waltham and raised in Boston.

A graduate of Boston College and St. John's Seminary, he was ordained in 1946. He served as curate at St. Mary's Parish in Randolph, St. John the Baptist Parish in Salem, St. Hedwigs Parish in Cambridge and Holy Trinity Parish in Lowell. He was appointed Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Ipswich, where he remained until he retired. He also served as a US Navy Chaplain, attaining the rank of Commander.

ARRANGEMENTS: Fr. Lukas was laid in state at St. Clare's Church, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree Highlands on Sunday March 3rd. from 4 to 7 P.M.. His funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Clare's Church on Monday, March 4th, at 11 A.M. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on the anniversary of his birthday, Saturday May 25th at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Hope Church, 54 Linebrook Road, Ipswich. All are respectfully invited to attend.
