Maria Frances (Bouchard) Gates, 96

Mrs. Maria Frances (Bouchard) Gates, 96, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Earl F. Gates, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home in Salem.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Adelaide (Gauthier) Bouchard. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a lifelong resident of the City of Salem.

A longtime member of the Franco American Auxiliary of Salem, Mrs. Gates was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who will be deeply missed.

Maria is survived by her sons, Edward Gates and his wife Mildred of Peabody and Robert Gates and his wife Joanne of Salem, her four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, her sisters, Jeanne O’Brien of Salem and Claudette Osman of Salem and several nieces, nephews and extended family. She was also the sister of the late Florence Patterson, Leonie Jamont, Agnes Bouchard, Evelyn Sears.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral Mass will be held in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Margin St., Salem/Peabody Line, Saturday at 11 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Spring Street Cemetery, Essex. There will be a one hour visitation period prior to the Mass at the church from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. Assisting the family with the arrangements is The O’Donnell Funeral Home 46 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem. in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Maria's memory to the Autism Research Foundation, 72 East Concord Rd., Rm1014, Boston, MA 02116 To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit www.odonnellfuneralservice.com.

    Born in Lynn, the son of the late Canio and Teresa (Cancellara) Civiello, he was educated at the Highland Elementary School and was a graduate of the Lynn Vocational School, in the Class of 1949. Mr. Civiello joined the Army Reserve in 1949 and was placed on active duty in 1952 during the Korean War. Following his discharge in 1954, Mr. Civiello remained on reserve duty until receiving his permanent discharge in 1960.

Colette worked as a lunch aide at the Drewicz School in Lynn and for Witham Catering and the former Clam Shell in Lynn. She was a communicant of St. Pius V Church and enjoyed sewing, quilting, working puzzles, playing cards and animals.

    Leawood, KS — Robert (Bob) Wayne Demeritt, 67, of Leawood, KS, died May 14, 2012, at his home after a long illness. Bob was born May 9, 1945, in Peabody, MA, the third child of Harold and Edythe (Castle) Demeritt. He attended Peabody schools and Northeastern University before graduating in 1967 from the University of Michigan with a degree in Far Eastern Languages and Literature. He received his Master's Degree in Oriental Languages and Literature in 1975 from KU. In the 1970's he studied and taught in Taiwan and Japan. Upon his return to the United States, he worked as Director of International Relations and Continuing Education at JCCC. He married Mary Anne Vickery in 1978. He taught Chinese, Japanese, and history at the Barstow School for over 20 years. He brought enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, and humor to the classroom. Bob was a man of many talents. Besides his mastery of several languages, he was a calligrapher, an excellent cook, an avid reader, a mentor to many, a wonderful listener, a great story teller, and a gracious host. Most of all, he was a steadfast friend and husband.

    The school board race was the only contested office on Hamilton's ballot, which brought 655 residents to the polls yesterday. Wenham residents cast votes for School Committee on May 5, the results of which were sealed until Hamilton's polls closed at 8 last night.
