Danvers, Ma — John I Herlihy, 89, of Danvers, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2013, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Casey) Herlihy.
Born in Salem, he was the son of Francis and Marion (Frost) Herlihy.
John was a longtime employee with the Town of Danvers Water and Sewer Department. He retired in 1993. He enjoyed working around the house and training his homing pigeons.
A veteran of WWII, John served with the U.S. Army and was the recipient of the Purple Heart Award.
He leaves his six children, John and his wife, Pauline, of South Carolina, David and his wife, Paula, of Maine, and Gerald Herlihy of New Hampshire., Peggy Carigan and her husband, Tom, of New Hampshire, Mary Crispo and her husband, Paul, and Marilyn and her husband, James Ryan, all of Danvers. He was brother to Betty and Barbara. He also leaves several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, James and Donald Herlihy.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visitation on Wednesday, from 9 to 11 a.m., in the Mackey Funeral Home, Danvers.
