Danvers — Katherine A. Tremblay, 80, died Monday, September 2, 2013, following a period of declining health.
Born in Grenada, Miss., on July 31, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Tuminello) Messina. She was raised and educated in Grenada and attended nursing school in Memphis, Tenn. She moved to Massachusetts in the 1950s, settling in Danvers in 1961.
For many years she was employed as a waitress at the former Sword & Shield in North Beverly, and as a lifeguard at the Beverly YMCA.
She was an avid walker, bicyclist, and swimmer who enjoyed the companionship of her dog, Brandy, and cats, Spooky and Gizmo.
She is survived by a devoted son, M. Douglas Tyrell of Peabody; her siblings, Rev. Samuel Messina and Teresa Cemosak of Miss., Joseph Messina and Mary Castro of Fla., and Rosie Vale of Ill.; several nieces and nephews; and two dear friends, Norma Harrell and Kate Oyole.
