Donald F. Herdeg, 84


 

Hamilton — Donald (Don) Herdeg, 84, husband of 56 years to Esther Herdeg, died on Sunday, September 8, from multiple myeloma. He was born and raised in Glen Ridge, N.J., and graduated from Dartmouth College and Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth.

Don served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed by General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y., and retired from United Shoe Machinery Corp. in Beverly in 1988, after 28 years as a project engineer.

His community activities included B.S.A. Troop Committee, Troop 4, Beverly and Troop 28, Wenham, Beverly Conservation Commission, Wenham Museum volunteer in the train room, Hamilton-Wenham Public Library volunteer, and Board of the Friends member. Many will remember that he umpired for his wife's girls softball league.

He was a member of the First Church in Wenham for over 40 years, singing in the choir for most of that time, and serving as a member of the Board of Deacons.

Don is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and David Mason; sons, Paul and his wife, Sharon, of Ohio, Glenn and his wife, Pat, of Acton, Mass., and Mark and his husband, Zane, of Waltham, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service to be held at The First Church in Wenham, corner of Main and Arbor, Wenham, on Saturday, September 14, at 10 a.m., followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
