Bradenton, Fl — Thomas G. Ford, 77, husband of the late Janet S. Ford, died early Monday, May 7, 2013, in Bradenton, Fla. Tom and Jan originally lived in Danvers.
Born in Boston on October 5, 1935, he was the son of William and Margaret (Gillen) Ford. He graduated from Mission Church High School in Roxbury and then received his bachelor of science degree in education from Northeastern University in 1958. Tom later received a master’s in education from Salem State College and taught at several schools before joining St. John’s Prep in 1963.
Tom worked for 30 years at St. John’s Prep, initially as an English teacher and football and basketball coach. He eventually became an assistant headmaster/director of studies and continued to be an advisor to students until his retirement in 1993.
He was very active in retirement, serving as an officer or committee member on several boards in his community. Most recently he was an active member of the Saints Peter and Paul Church, where he participated in the choir and served the needy as a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Tom is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Robert Miller of Katonah, N.Y.; and his son, Gil Ford of Ohio; his grandchildren Taylor and Thomas Miller of Katonah, and Bailey Ford of Wapakoneta, Ohio.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services in Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles Church, Bradenton, Fla., will be held on Tuesday, May 14 at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, 719 Manatee Ave., East, Bradenton, FL, 34208. Interment will be in Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles Church Memorial Garden.
