Athena 'Tina' Scangas, 101


Manalapan, Fl — Mrs. Athena “Tina” (Varoutsos) Scangas, 101, of Manalapan, Fla., formerly of Swampscott and Lynn, died on Thursday June 13, 2013, at the JFK Medical Center, Atlantis, Fla., after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Paul Scangas, the founder of West Lynn Creamery and Richdale Dairy Stores.

Born and raised in Lynn, Tina was the daughter of the late Arthur and Maria (Heos) Varoutsos. She attended Lynn Schools and lived in Lynn until 1988, when she moved to Florida while often summering in Swampscott.

Tina was proud of her role as a wonderful homemaker and mother. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with others, especially family.

She is survived by her two daughters, Joan Whelan and her husband, David, of Marblehead, and Kathryn Diamond and her husband, Basil, of Florida; three grandchildren, David Whelan Jr., of Marblehead, and Charles Diamond and Tanya Diamond, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m., in the Solimine Landergan and Richardson Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St., Lynn, followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
