Peabody — Mary F. (O’Brien) Gosselin RN, COHN-S, beloved wife of the late John Gosselin Sr., died peacefully on Saturday evening, June 22, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, while in the comforting presence of her family.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Frances (Sullivan) O’Brien. She grew up in Dorchester, where she attended schools and graduated from Girls Latin High School. She later graduated from North Shore Community College and Salem State College with a degree in nursing. She was a longtime Peabody resident.
Mrs. Gosselin was a registered nurse and was employed with the former J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody and Saugus General Hospital. She focused on occupational health, and soon was the director of Federal Occupational Health in Boston. Mary had an entrepreneurial spirit and owned her training business, Industrial Medical Programs based in Peabody, in which she trained first responders and early emergency medical techs (EMTs). She consulted with many businesses and companies, and retired from Eastman Gelatin in 2009.
She was a member of the North of Boston Occupational Nurses Association, where she served on the board of directors. She was also a member of the Red Cross, active in St. Adelaide’s Church, and was a scouting leader for girls and boys with Brownies and Girl Scouts, then Cub Scouts, Webelos and Boy Scouts. She cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed swimming, and taking her children along with their friends to the beach in their “Beachwagon,” often with curlers in her hair. Her love of the ocean was shared with all her grandchildren.
